We were fortunate enough to be in Saarbruecken when they were holding a classic car rally, so that kept us entertained for a while. In conclusion, I would say Saarbruecken is ok for an overnight stop, but I wouldn't make a special point of going there. The only redeeming feature of this overpriced hotel was the breakfast which was very good. They went to the first floor fine but after that you had to go through another door to get to more stairs.
We are easy to reach, with the main train station and the A620 highway both just 328 yards (300 m) away, and Saarbrücken airport 9.3 miles (15 km) away. The city is the economic and cultural hub of the Saar-Moselle region and forms part of the Quattro Pole city network - a strategic alliance between the cities of Luxembourg, Metz, Trier and Saarbrücken. The 4-star Mercure Hotel Saarbrücken City offers a choice of Standard Rooms with double bed, Superior Rooms with double bed or twin beds and comfortable Privilege Rooms with double bed and sofa. All 150 rooms are equipped with WIFIand are air-conditioned.Bizarrely on arrival there were only three pillows for two of us and on the second day we arrived back to find no towels in our room and used toiletries had not been replenished. The standard lamp did not work and the towels were of a very poor quality. However on arrival we were given a room on the second floor and started to go up the stairs.

Second problem was that the lovely bar was shut the second night we stayed. The reason given was that it was open only for the football. We went up and down the stairs a few times but each door to each floor was firmly locked. All the doors to the outside at the basement of the hotel were locked too.No football had been on the previous night when we and some others had been into the bar. It's a 4 star hotel and you expect a waiter to bring you drinks from the restaurant if no bar staff are available, not to have to get them yourself and carry them to the bar, turn the lights on, remove the closed sign etc.
